Some time ago I had dinner with Brother Jerry Savelle along with some other friends. That night I asked Him. "Brother Jerry, if you were to give me the greatest seed of wisdom in the ministry for my wife and I to live by, what would it be?"

I focused myself and opened my heart expecting and he replied, "Shun the very appearance of evil." He tapped my chest and went on to say, "If it even feels funny, SHUN!"

My spirit leaped, as I believed it was a word from God not only for me, but also for YOU!

The next day I said to my wife. "Baby, of all the things brother Jerry could of told us—confession, faith, believe, walk in your authority, etc., he said it was 'SHUN!'"

I began to study that word through Brother Jerry's experience and God's heart, and it's something that we as believers must be willing and obedient to do.

SHUN!

Herein lies all the health to our bodies and life we could of ever asked for. Say SHUN! SHUN! The Bible uses the word shun in many different places.

The Golden Nugget
I like the American Heritage Dictionary definition of the term shun. It means to "avoid deliberately, to keep clear of." That reminds me of another scripture.
Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil.
(Prov. 3:7)
The word shun in this passage of scripture means to "depart," the same way a plane leaves its terminal..."See ya' I'm flying out!" To totally rebel against (evil that is); to totally remove one's self.

God prepares us for the same things He tells us to keep clear of, and that's good news. You see, He is saying there are going to be snakes everywhere, but be of good cheer for "I have overcome the world!"

Everywhere we go there will always be temptation. But let me remind you, it is our job to shun! Jesus said, "To him who overcomes I will give the keys to everlasting life." Say it with me. "I'm an overcomer. I'm a shunner" (if such a word exists).

You Were Built For It!
How about saying, "I have been prepared for this." The Word of God declares that there has never been a temptation that has come unto us that has been unbearable to withstand. God is telling us that we have the ability to cast it down! "Cast your cares up me...."

But you have to take authority. It's as if Jesus were saying, "All power, dominion, and authority has been given, so do it in My name! You stand and I will sustain you."

The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 10:13-14 that God will keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can't stand up against it. When we are tempted, God will provide us with a way out so that we will not give in to it. "Wherefore, my beloved, flee...."

There it is again—SHUN!

In the Hebrew this word "flee" (which means shun) is pronounced fyoo'-go! Now doesn't that sound like, "Hey, fool, go!"? I know it doesn't mean that, but it's interesting nevertheless!

This is something we are bound to face simply by virtue of being human. Look at Psalms 55:22, "Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved." You see that? It's a promise. But first we must cast our burdens upon Him. Then He promises to sustain us!

Praise GOD. Go ahead, make this confession with me now:
Lord, I cast down this _________, you promised to sustain me through this time. I believe you, no matter what. Thank you, my Father. You're not a man that you should lie! Praise your Holy Name.
What's even more exciting, is the fact that when you do this, the rewards are in the arena of health and fitness. "This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones" (Prov. 3:8).

Are Your Sure?
Yes, we have health in shunning. I have health in casting down. I have health in fleeing from sin, evil, and temptations.

For example, if you strive to shun some of those favorite late night snacks, you'll notice a difference in your weight and overall health. Perhaps it's some other type of food that your body craves—maybe you're a sucker for something cold and icy, or maybe it's the salty and crunchy foods....

It doesn't matter. Whatever is holding you back from walking in your true heart's desire of total health, cast it down!

God wants us in perfect health. Why? So we are physically able to fulfill the great commission. Third John 2 states that God wishes above all things that we would prosper and be in health.

Being overweight is not good health. But you can turn things around. You can do it. "SHUN!"

The Good Fight Of Faith
Take a look at some of these scriptures:
But as for you, man (and women) of God, shun all this; pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith; take hold of eternal life, to which you were called and for which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. In the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who in his testimony before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you to keep the commandment without spot or blame until the manifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ, which he will bring about at the right time—he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords. It is he alone who has immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see; to him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.
(1 Tim. 6:11-16)

The fear of the Lord—that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding.
(Job 28:28)

Abstain (shun) from every appearance of evil.
(1 Thess. 5:22)
Did brother Jerry give me the right advice? Oh yeah!

Take some time to slow down today. Remember, you are not your own, you have been purchased at a very high price. Get the health that has been promised for you. Get it today. You've got the Messiah inside of you!

Now let's SHUN and get ready for a healthy body.
