A number of years ago a friend of mine was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She had twenty-five large cancerous tumors throughout her body and the doctors gave her only a month to live. Needless to say, she was devastated after hearing the news and she wound up retreating to her bedroom curled up in a fetal position on the floor, mentally planning her own funeral.

Now, twenty years later, she is alive and well, preaching the gospel and witnessing many in her church being saved, healed, and delivered. So what was her secret in overcoming a true death sentence? It wasn’t chemotherapy or radiation because she refused those standard treatments.  Nor was it surgery, a good diet, or wishful thinking. The secret was… old fashioned, time tested, bible-believing faith….the kind of faith that moves mountains!

God has given all of His creation a “measure of faith.” (Rom. 12:3) All of us started out at conception with this precious gift. But it’s up to us to develop our faith and to exercise it, similar to how a body builder builds his muscles. Many people allow their faith to lie dormant within themselves, where it will never do any good. Without bringing it to the surface and acting upon it, we cannot expect to please God and to see miraculous answers to prayer in our lives. (Heb. 11:3)

There are many kinds of faith, including temporary faith, religious faith, intellectual faith and human faith. But the kind of faith that will move mountains is a pure, unadulterated faith in His Word, forsaking the many opinions of man that are bombarding us daily.

My friend won her battle with cancer. It wasn’t easy – in fact, it was harder to stand in faith than it was to give up and die. But she persevered in the face of adversity. She kicked the naysayers out of her life who told her to give up. She ignored the voices of the doctors who told her to prepare to die. She put the Bible in front of her and searched every scripture she could that pertained to healing. She stood fast to Proverbs 4:20-23 which tells us, “His Word is life to your body and health to your flesh.” Her faith in His Word coupled with her corresponding action, moved the mountain of cancer and death.

Do you have a mountain in your life that needs to be moved? It may be a mountain of debt or a mountain of sickness. Maybe it is a mountain of sorrow. Whatever it is, know that God is on your side and that He wants you to dust off your Bible and put His Word of Truth before your eyes, in your ears, and on your lips. He wants you to develop the God kind of faith that will supernaturally bring to rubble any obstacle that is standing in your path to victory.

Yes, we can move mountains with our faith…
So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. (Matt. 17:20)
