Remember; "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit." If you love what you are getting, then keep saying what you've been saying.
Proverbs 18:21 "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit."  Many people do not believe that their words affect the end result or outcome of their lives. Yet this verse says, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue…." So let's learn more about what the Word of God has to say on this subject.

In Proverbs 18:21, the writer uses some important expressions that we should consider. The "Strong's Exhaustive Concordance" says this phrase "the power of the tongue" means, under the direction of, or under the thumb of, or we could safely say, under the control of. Therefore, "Death and life are" under the control "of the tongue."

Then he uses the expression, "they that love it…." Love what? They love what's been coming out of their mouths. What does it mean to love the words that come out of a person's mouth? It means that you are unwilling to change what you are saying. In the Hebrew it means that you love it "like a friend."  In other words, we could say, "I love my words so much, that they are just like my best friend and I'm not willing to give up my friend."  Some people love their words so much, that they will not change what they say!

If we are not willing to change even in our words, then we are in defiance of scriptures that tell us we are to be conformed (or transformed) to the very image of Christ. (Transform means to change). "God saves us as we are, but doesn't want to leave us the way we were when we came to Him." God is not trying to control our lives, but through His Word, He has given us the provision to transformed. Romans 8:29 says, "For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son."

His Word is saying, "if you keep saying what you've been saying, then you will keep getting what you've been getting."  You will "eat its fruit…." meaning that you get the reward of what you have been saying.

Are you committed to speaking words of encouragement, words of blessing, words that agree with God's Word? Or are you committed to speaking words that tear down, words that discourage you and others, words that do not agree with God's Word? Do you love the fruit of what you are eating and experiencing through the words that come out of your mouth enough not to change?

Job 6:24 says, "Teach me, and I will hold my tongue; Cause me to understand wherein I have erred." You can learn to "hold {your} tongue." You can learn to change what you've been speaking. But, only you can make the decision to change.

Proverbs 13:3 NLT "Those who control their tongue will have a long life; a quick retort can ruin everything."  A person, who does not control or guard their mouth, can destroy their own life with their words. If you control or guard what you say, you can literally protect your life and produce "long life."

Job 6:25 it says, "How forceful are right words!" Have you ever said this to your car when it wouldn't start? "You stupid, worthless car…you never start. You're nothing but a piece of junk."  Right now you're thinking, "what's wrong with that?" Well, I didn't write the Bible, but it still says, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue…."

You could start saying, "You are a blessed car that starts every time… I speak blessing over you in the Name of Jesus!" You are a blessing from God and you get me where I need to go…." You know, some people even speak positive words over their flowers and plants. People speak blessing over their food. Why not speak blessing over everything else that God has provided for us?

Jesus said in Mark 11:22-23 "22So Jesus … said to them, "Have faith in God. 23For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says."  Therefore, as we "Have faith in God…" we are to speak the words of God, that produce the blessings which God desires for us through His Word.

The mountain in this verse is not a physical or literal mountain, but a mountain of circumstance that may be in our lives. And Jesus said, "Whoever says to this mountain…" Every mountain in your life started out a molehill. However, we are more comfortable with molehills, because they do not cause us that much trouble. But, they grow and grow, having been fed by the words of our mouths, and then they become mountains in our lives.

Yet the grace of God remains in force and Jesus says, "even though you kept speaking negative and destructive words that have fed that molehill, you go ahead and speak my Word to that molehill or mountain and watch it disappear." You may say, "What am I supposed to say to the mountain?" You are to speak the written Word of God to it and tell the mountain to be gone.

Remember; "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit." If you love what you are getting, then keep saying what you've been saying. If not, then change your words so that they honor the Lord Jesus Christ. Think about it!
