…All of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
(1 Peter 5:5-7 NKJV)
Christians who are truly humble believe, trust, and obey God’s Word over what they think, reason, feel, or desire. That means they trust God’s ability over their own. They desire more than anything else to fulfill His will.
Behold the proud, his soul is not upright in him; but the just shall live by his faith.
(Hab. 2:4 NKJV)
Humility and faith are a packaged deal. You can’t have one without the other. The same is true of pride and unbelief. When we choose to not believe God, we are declaring that we know better than Him, that we trust our judgment over His. Our resistance undermines our ability to do what He desires, for we are empowered only by faith.

Sometimes unbelief isn’t a matter of blatantly saying, “God, You’re absolutely wrong!” It can disguise itself in thoughts like, Maybe I should have a plan B or C, just in case God doesn’t follow through on this…

There is no need for “just in case” with God. His plan has not changed from the beginning of time, and He is more than capable of finishing what He has started. He cannot be surprised or taken aback.

Don’t you think it’s time to end the power struggle and just let God be God? If so, humble yourself and pray:

Father, I submit myself to Your authority. I let go of the puzzle pieces I have tried to assemble myself. I might see fragments, but I don’t know the big picture. I don’t want to try to put the pieces together; I want Your perfect plan. I relinquish control. By Your Word and the power of the Holy Spirit, guide me in Your ways, not my own. In Jesus’ name, amen.
