Second Timothy 2:15 says, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

I believe the Bible (in the original languages) is God’s Holy Word. In its pages you will find the Old Testament (Genesis to Malachi), which contains several covenants made between God & man. The one generally referred to as ‘Old Covenant’ or ‘Old Law’ usually means the Ten Commandments.

The New Testament (Matthew to Revelation) is made up of
  1. The Gospels
  2. New Covenant (made between God the Father and God the Son) and is related more fully in the Pauline epistles and letters to local churches
  3. Eschatology, which is the study of end time events. Most people who study end time events in the New Testament, refer to the teachings of Jesus in the Gospels and The Book Revelation.
We should keep in mind that Old Testament principles never supersede New Covenant Truths. Hebrews 8:6 says, “But now He (Jesus) has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.” And of course, the “better covenant” of Jesus is talking about the New Covenant.

In 2 Timothy 2, the Apostle Paul tells Timothy to keep reminding the people not to quarrel about words and things that are pointless. Paul also says to avoid individuals who mishandle the Word of God, like Hymenaeus and Philetus.

In verse 17-18 Paul says, “And their message will spread like cancer. Hymenaeus and Philetus are of this sort, who have strayed concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some.” These two seemed to be teaching that there was no resurrection for Believers, which is in direct opposition to what Jesus taught.

Even sitting under the anointed ministries of the Apostle Paul and others didn’t guarantee that no error would be encountered. If it could happen there, it can also happen in our day and time. Therefore, we must study the Word in order to be able to know what is Truth, and what Truth we can stand on.

Many Christians today follow what they have been taught and assume that what they believe is according to the Bible. You should choose to take the time to prove or put to the test, why you believe and practice the things you do.

Is the source of your Christian beliefs the Bible, or is what you believe and practice based on some other authority?

The Bible should be our source for all things pertaining to our Christianity.  Second Peter 1:3 says, “as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue.” You will always find the answers you need to “things pertaining to life and godliness, through the knowledge” in God’s Word.

John 1:17 says, “For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” Are you searching for Truth? The keep looking to Jesus, who is the living Word and as Paul said, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

Preach Jesus Christ, who is our Grace and Truth. Think about it!
