If you have cable television, you can sit home and flip through nearly 150 channels and not watch anything, but just flip, flip, flip. You can be filled with so much information by just a single flip of the switch. For one second every channel you flip by can fill your mind with so much filth.

Your senses absorb more than you realize. Your eyes see it and your ears hear it. I want to caution you right now to not let your heart be like a Denny's Restaurant: Always open. You must be sure that you protect your heart. Don't open your spirit up to just anything.

Somebody in the family has to be the gatekeeper to not let things enter the heart or enter into the family that should not be there. Remember the angel that God stationed outside the Garden of Eden to keep Adam and Eve from coming back into the garden? That angel was the gatekeeper to keep the family from being destroyed. We, as parents, have to be the gatekeepers.

You have to be the gatekeeper in your own life. You have to screen out all the garbage and all the toxic waste. You are responsible for guarding what comes into your life through your five senses: your sight, your hearing, your touch, your smell and your taste.

These are the gates through which all forms of amusement/entertainment must pass. Our senses are, in fact, the gate to our very being on the inside of us, which includes our physical, emotional and spiritual being.

The Bible condenses these senses into one main part and calls it the heart. The heart is the most important organ in your body. It pumps the blood of life so you can live. So when Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, said, "Above all else guard your heart for it affects everything you do," he knew what he was talking about.

Everything you let in through your heart's gate affects who you are, what you do, and what you will become. Everything you hear, everything you see, everything you smell, everything you touch, everything you taste affects who you will be. It's your heart's gate, and you have to protect it.

As the family gatekeeper, you are not only responsible for your own heart but you are responsible for the hearts of your children as well. You can and should help your children make decisions about their entertainment and their friends.

Proverbs 4:23 says, "Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life." The devil is continually seeking entrance into our hearts. Daily, we must cleanse our hearts and get rid of all the garbage that has tried to enter it.

It's time to make some new changes in our present lifestyle. It starts right where you are in your own home. Pay attention to what you've allowed to enter your heart. If it's not pleasing to God, get rid of it. If you want God's best in your life, you've got to be willing to clean up all the unclean areas in your life.

Be selective about what you allow your eyes to see and your ears to hear. As Proverbs 4:23 (NIV) says, "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the well spring of life."
