There has never been a greater demand on us for excellence than right now. It's only when we have been found faithful in the little things that God allows us to rule over much. So, don't merely endure the present. Remember that nothing of great value ever comes easy, so "toughen up" and refuse to allow yourself to become weary and bored in your place of work.

I've listed some points that I find essential to help you get promoted both in the workplace and in your walk with God:

#1. Start your day every day in the presence of the Lord.
Begin confessing the moment you awake: Psalm 118:24 says, "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."

Give the first minutes of your day to God and then expect His presence to surround you throughout the day. You'll find that God is eager to use you and will anoint you to do exceeding abundantly above and beyond what you are capable of asking or thinking.

#2. Seize every moment.
Keep your mind firmly fixed on the successful completion of every detail. To get the most out of your day, put the most into every hour—eliminate time-wasting activities. When you waste time, you waste opportunities to be more productive. Always give every task your best effort.

#3. Pray in the spirit and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you how to achieve maximum potential.
Re-evaluate the way you do things and establish a fresh new strategy for carrying out the day-to-day responsibilities of your job. Don't get in a rut—set higher standards and make greater demands on yourself to achieve maximum results. Don't allow yourself to get into a "that's good enough" behavior pattern. A "good enough" mentality produces poor standards and poor quality.

#4. If you make a mistake, take full responsibility for it - don't "pass the buck."
Everyone has made mistakes, but the difference between those who strive for excellence and those who are satisfied with being average is:
* They admit that it was their mistake
* They correct them immediately
* They learn from them (what not to do)
* They refuse to repeat that mistake

#5. Make a checklist for everything and follow through.
Goal-setting is a must for promotion and success.

#6. Never stop learning.
True professionals are always learning. To stop learning is to stop growing (Proverbs 1:5; 8:33).

Refuse to allow yourself to think that you already know enough or know all there is to know. Have a teachable spirit. Our future demands that we keep learning how to do things better and more efficiently.

#7. Be thorough!
The dictionary defines this as: carry through to completion, careful about detail, complete in all respects.

Proverbs 13:19 says, "Desire accomplished is sweet to the soul." When a job has been thoroughly fulfilled, there comes the sweet taste of satisfaction. There's no pride in a half-finished, incomplete job. The difference between something being good and something being great is attention to detail.

In closing, let me give you a list of 10 keys to bring God's presence into your work place:
  1. Do all that you are asked to do as unto the Lord.
  2. Respect and honor those who have authority over you.
  3. Demand excellence out of yourself in every duty that you perform.
  4. Develop work ethics that are higher than those in which the world operates.
  5. WALK IN LOVE and avoid strife at all costs.
  6. Recognize and honor the gifts and callings of others.
  7. Develop and cultivate a fervent spirit for God and for your work.
  8. Practice diligence.
  9. Live to give—be a blessing.
  10. Be mindful of who you represent (Jesus).

Dr. Jerry Savelle was an average, blue-collar man who was struggling and needed God's help. While he considered himself a "nobody," when he became a believer God told him not to worry about it because He was a master at making champions out of nobodies. God has since taken Dr. Savelle from being a constant quitter to a man who knows how to stand on the Word of God until victory is experienced. Because of the life-changing combination of God's faithfulness and Dr. Savelle's "no quit" attitude, his life is totally different than it was thirty-eight years ago.
