Will Christians receive rewards in Heaven because of what they do on the earth? If so, why?

Let's begin by permitting the Scriptures to answer your first question.
The nations were angry, and Your wrath has come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that You should reward Your servants the prophets and the saints, and those who fear Your name, small and great, and should destroy those who destroy the earth.
(Rev. 11:18 NKJ)

And behold, I (Jesus) am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to each one according to his work.
(Rev. 22:12 NKJ)

For we (Christians) must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
(2 Cor. 5:10 NKJ)
God will most definitely reward Christians for the life that they live on this earth. All of us must appear before the judgment seat of Christ!

We will be rewarded at this time for the good that we've done. We'll also be reprimanded for the wrong that we've done. The purpose of rewards has to do with the very character of God.

He is a God who generously blesses all who serve Him. "But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him" (Heb.11:6 NKJ).
