How can I be a citizen of Heaven and a citizen of my country on earth?

For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, Who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.
(Phil. 3:20-21 NKJV)
The Bible encourages us to be good and faithful citizens to whatever earthly nation we belong to as citizens (Rom. 13:1-7).

If you are a Christian, you have dual citizenship. You may be an American, but you are also a Christian, a child of God, and from a country called Heaven. Heaven is a spiritual country; America is a natural country. Heaven will exist forever; while America, along with the rest of the earth, will one day cease to exist (2 Peter 3:10).

You become a citizen of Heaven when you accept Jesus as your Savior and are born again. "For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus" (Gal. 3:26 NIV). We also legally belong to God's country since we have become His sons and daughters. Our bodies belong to our earthly country, but the real us, our spirit man, belongs to the country called Heaven.

This is why we go to Heaven when we die and why a non-Christian can't. It is very important that Christians grasp this great truth and begin to take advantage of their Heavenly citizenship.
