Why is there so much division in the body of Christ, and does Jesus want it to be that way?

I believe Jesus wants all Christians to be in unity with one another, and to speak highly of one another. Remember what Jesus said:
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.
(John 13:34-35 NIV)
Differences in opinion on how the Scriptures should be interpreted seem to account for much of the division and fighting in the body of Christ. We must come to the place where we can disagree, but not be disagreeable. Notice what Jesus said in this Scripture:
And John answered him, saying, "Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us." But Jesus said, "Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me. For he that is not against us is on our part."
(Mark 9:38-40 KJV)
If someone is preaching Christ, even though there are differences, we need to realize we are on the same side. God requires us to love each other and overlook areas of disagreement.

Jesus does not want division in His body! He doesn't mind different churches as we all have a part to play; however, He does not want us to say that we be long to the "only" church, or talk evil of other Christians (Eph. 4:1-6).
