When I was about seven years old, my family moved to a house in the country on my grandfather's property, close to Hickory Flat, Mississippi. It was there that I met Jesus.

"I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me" (Prov. 8:17).

When I was about seven years old, my family moved to a house in the country on my grandfather's property, close to Hickory Flat, Mississippi. Even though we only lived there about a year, some of my fondest childhood memories are from that time.

It was there that I met Jesus.

That day is still vivid in my memory. It was on a Sunday morning that I sat in the second pew of the Ebenezer Methodist Church, listening to a man named Willie Cook give a testimony of how the Lord had "filled his cup until it overflowed."

As he gave the testimony, tears rolled down his cheeks. I was so drawn to him and wanted so much to experience what he had experienced; I didn't know he was talking about salvation.

That night when my sisters and I got on our knees to say our prayers before going to bed, I lingered a little longer. I said to the Lord, "Dear Lord, would You fill my cup 'til it overflows like you did Mr. Cook?"

I waited and nothing happened.

I prayed again, "Lord, would you please fill my cup 'til it overflows like you did Mr. Cook?" The Lord knew my heart was sincere, so He answered my prayer and began to pour His beautiful liquid love into my cup (my heart) until I felt like it would burst! I was so thrilled and excited, I began to cry and laugh at the same time.

…All Things Will Become New
I jumped in bed and tried to tell my sisters what had just happened to me. I don't think they understood what I was trying to say. I really didn't know how to explain it, except to say that the Lord had filled my cup 'til it overflowed!

The Lord came into my heart that night and made me a new creation. I had a new Spirit within my heart. I had a new Spirit within me. My feet were now set on a new course, a course that would one day take me to heaven. I was born again!

The following year we moved to Pontotoc, Mississippi, and started attending the First Baptist Church. One Sunday morning when the pastor gave the altar call, my sister Shirley went down to accept Jesus as her Savior. When she stepped out into the aisle, I stepped out right behind her and we walked to the front. We both confessed Jesus as our Lord and were baptized in water.

I often think how the Holy Spirit drew me to Him in a Methodist church. I was saved at home by my bedside. Later I confessed Him publicly and was baptized in water in a Baptist church.

Both of my parents were raised in the Church of God. In fact, my father's father was a Church of God minister. After I was grown, I went to an Assemblies of God church and was baptized in the Holy Spirit there.

With a background like that, it is easy to see why Agape Church is nondenominational! But you know, the title of a denomination makes no difference. Where the Spirit of the Lord is makes the difference.

"For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus" (Gal. 3:26).

There were times in my life when I did not live for Jesus like I should have, times when I fell down. But he has always been there to encourage me to get back up and keep on walking with Him.

He has never forsaken me. He has never stopped loving me. He has always been merciful and kind and faithful. That's why I love Him so. I agree with the Apostle Peter. Jesus is, indeed, precious (See 1 Peter 2:7).

If you haven't already, why don't you ask God to fill your cup 'til it overflows? He will—and you will be gloriously changed!
