You and your children have to have a vision to succeed in life. Here's what I did to develop vision in my family.

The Bible says that before I was born, there was a book in Heaven with my name on it (Ps. 139:16), and it says to write my vision down (Hab. 2:2-3), so I made a notebook for myself, for my wife, and for each of my children. For my book, I took a three-ring binder and put my name on the spine of it. If you pull that book down and open it to the front page, it's all the things about Joe McGee and my life.

That notebook has my name in it. It has a list of my God-given gifts and abilities. It has career aptitude tests I've taken in it to remind me of what my gifts are. It has a written vision of what God has called me to do, and it has the following verses in it:
All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
(Ps. 139:16)

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
(Jer. 29:11)

Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.
(Jer. 33:3)

For God's gifts and his call are irrevocable.
(Romans 11:29)

The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.
(Deut. 29:29)

"No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him"—but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit.
(1 Cor.2:9)
What does all that do for me? Once I get a vision and write it down, it gives me faith that that vision will manifest in the natural. Faith comes to me when I hear the Word of God. (Rom. 10:17.)

Faith Brings the Vision To Pass
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
(Heb. 11:1 KJV)
My faith is always working on what I can't see. So if I'm short on something in my life, it's because I'm short on vision.

Every one of us has faith. Romans 12:3 says that God has given every believer the same measure of faith, which means that the faith we have is quality stuff. Don't ever think you don't have enough faith. Jesus said, "If you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you can move a mountain." (See Matt. 17:20.) It doesn't take a lot of the faith God gave you to get the job done. You just have to use what you've got!
Whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them."
(Mark 11:24 NKJV )
I have today by my faith whatever I have seen myself doing. Until I see myself doing more, my faith cannot produce more. Faith must have a vision to act upon. My faith is currently producing everything I have seen myself doing, and I can only see what I've asked God to reveal.

What did the woman with the issue of blood see in the natural? She was getting worse. But with her spiritual eyes she saw a Man who healed the sick, raised the dead, walked on water, and fed five thousand, and she said to herself, "If I can touch Him, I've got it" (Matt. 9:21). She had a vision!

When she crawled through the crowd and touched Him, Jesus said, "Woman, your faith has made you whole." Her faith and her vision got her to His feet, where she was healed. She saw it, and her faith brought what she saw to pass.

If we can't see it, we can't have faith to obtain it. Therefore, we cannot have it. Our faith brings the vision God gives us into the here and now.

Seeing the Vision Is Vital
The vision God has planted in us for our lives will continue to get brighter and greater as we walk it out. With every step we take, God shows us more and we gain more.

When He first shows us something, God doesn't dump the whole vision on us at once. He gives us a step at a time so our faith can produce that. Then He'll give us the next step and our faith produces that. This process doesn't end until Jesus comes to get us!

Every person needs vision. That's where the blessing is. If we don't have spiritual vision, we'll perish. The devil and the natural circumstances of life will beat us down. We must have spiritual insight and teach our kids to follow the vision.

People who have made great discoveries are people of vision. Think about Jonas Salk and the Polio vaccine. When others could not see it, he could. Somebody is going to discover a cure for AIDS because they see something nobody else sees. It's going to happen. Somebody saw us on the moon when we weren't even flying off the ground yet.

If all you're seeing is what's there, the devil will keep you depressed. I don't want to be depressed, and I don't want my children to be depressed. I want my children to be happy, so I'm teaching them to have vision.

Self-worth and a vision are two powerful tools to leave home with. With them, we all have a purpose for living, and can feel good about life and about ourselves. Tests and trials may come our way, but we won't stop going forward until we fulfill God's plan.
