"I'm too busy." "The kids are too demanding." "There's not enough time in a day." "I'm tired." Sound familiar? These are common excuses for not spending time with God.
Where there is an absence of prayer, there will be an absence of power! Where there is frequency of prayer, there will be continuing display of God's power. James 5:16 says, "The earnest, heartfelt, continued prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available, dynamic in its working."
Could you use some more power in your life? Sure you could. It takes power to get the job done that God has called you to do. Sometimes we try to work things out in our own strength before we go to God, and after everything fails - then we decide it's time to pray. In prayer, you align yourself to the purpose and power of God, and He is able to do things through you that He could not do otherwise.
Just recently, I was asked by a police officer, "Do you know what the most important item is for an officer to carry at all times?" I confidently responded, "A gun!" He said, "No, the radio." He then held his radio up and said, "This is my life-line. Without it, I'm in trouble I can't receive instructions, respond to danger and request assistance if needed."
Almost immediately, as if to prove the necessity of the radio, I heard a police officer on the radio who sounded as if he was running and saying, "I'm after him...I'm on the corner of Fourth and Penn...I can't see anything." Instantly, headquarters said, "Help is on its way." Then I heard another officer saying, "Look out, he ran behind a warehouse...Watch it - there's two...He's now six feet in front of you."
I said, "Who is that and how does he know everything?" The officer told me, "That's our helicopter patrol and they see everything through the infrared lighting. They warn us of danger ahead and help us with precautions to take."
It was quiet for a moment and I wondered if the officer had been wounded until we heard, "They're in custody." My friend then said, "This radio saved the officer's life. If he hadn't had it turned on, we couldn't have helped him."
What About Our Spiritual Radio?
Instantly, I got a revelation. If we don't have our radio turned on to God through prayer and fellowship, how can He help us? How can He inform us of danger ahead and give us precautions to take if we never talk to Him? How can He send help (the Holy Spirit) if we never turn the radio on?
God sees everything - just like that helicopter patrol. He knows where you're at, He knows the plots of the enemy trying to destroy you, and He is able to give you the Help you need to succeed.
Prayer is initiated by an act of the will. It is your choice. Prayer is nothing more than fellowshipping with the Father. God desires for His people to be successful, to be filled with a full deep knowledge of His will and to bear fruit in every good work, but it can only come through prayer.
If you cut that line of communication with Headquarters (God) then you will not be full of His power. If you do not have power, you will not be able to do all that God has called you to do. Failing in life ultimately depends on your relationship with God; if you cut the line of communication with God, it opens the door for Satan to come in and distract you.
We'll never know where we're going in life if we never turn the radio on to receive instructions. If you'll notice, the officer does not turn the radio on just when he needs help. He leaves it on all the time. If he turns the radio off, headquarters can no longer help him.
If you're standing and believing God for His perfect will in your life, you will never know it unless you pray. God wants to visit with you each and every day - not just on Sunday, not just before you go to bed, and not just when you're in need. He wants a relationship with you.
Don't cut the line of communication with Headquarters and let the enemy defeat you. It's time to turn your radio on, listen for God's instructions, and let Him assist you with power to get the job done. Where there is frequency of prayer, there will be a continuing display of God's power.
