"And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart" (Gal. 6:9).

A few weeks ago I had a man and his wife sitting across from me in my office seeking counsel. My reputation as a marriage counselor is not necessarily the greatest.

When my wife and I were first married, I took a job as a marriage counselor for a company called Family Aide Marriage Services in Kansas City. I had a desk and a phone, but no experience or common sense and I only lasted a week.

But over the last few decades I have improved a little. I've gained some wisdom through the Word and I've come to find out that if we live our lives doing what God says to do and not doing what He says not to do, then most of our problems will solve themselves.

Anyway, the couple in my office was taking turns telling me about how the other one should change. I've always thought it was interesting how people expect a change in someone else to change them.

The man looked at me and said, "I'm tired of always being the one to go the extra mile." About that time, the wife chimed in and said, "What do you mean? I'm the one who's been the nice guy. I'm the one who does more than I need to and I'm fed up with it, too."

It was about this time that my lightning fast mind thought of Galatians 6:9. Here the Word tells us that when we do good, we should not grow weary, but that we should continue to do good and the result will be a great harvest in our life.

So the next time you feel like giving up in your walk of goodness and kindness, remember this: God does not lie and He says in His Word that you will reap in due season if you do not become disheartened in doing good.
