Marriage is a supernatural union that God considered vital to put in His Word. When a man finds his wife, he obtains favor from God. Proverbs 18 says:
Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.
(Prov. 18:22)
Marriage is designed to be a good thing and a blessing to both the man and woman. Every marriage is different because people are different.

In each marriage, you have to apply the Word in order for it to be successful. Let's look at a few steps to obtain the kind of marriage that God intended every couple to have.

Honor
Let's look at honor. One reason for problems in a marriage is not honoring your mate. Not honoring your mate originates from selfishness.

You may know you need to honor God but did you also know you are to honor other people, especially your mate? If you have the attitude that you will always consider your mate above yourself, your marriage will be blessed.

Ephesians 5 tells us about honor,
Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
(Eph. 5:21-24)
God put the man in the position as head of the house. There has to be one head in the home, the man.

For order to be in the home, there cannot be two heads of the house. So wives, honor your husband as the head of your house. And husbands honor your wife as a precious child of God.

Avoid Pride
People in a marriage must avoid pride. The Bible is full of scriptures dealing with pride. In Proverbs 13:10, we see pride is the opposite of wisdom: "Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom."

If there is strife and contention in the home, it comes because of pride. Never be too proud to admit you are wrong. Proverbs 11:2 says, "When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom."

To avoid pride, give yourself to a humble attitude. Proverbs 29:23 tells you that you will be upheld in God when you demonstrate a humble attitude, "A man's pride shall bring him low: but honor shall uphold the humble in spirit."

Love
A woman must feel loved by her husband. Look at Proverbs 30:
For three things the earth is disquieted, and for four which it cannot bear: For a servant when he reigneth; and a fool when he is filled with meat; For an odious woman when she is married; and an handmaid that is heir to her mistress.
(Prov. 30:21)
The Bible says that the earth becomes disquieted, or violent or angry, over an odious woman. An odious woman is a married woman who feels she is unloved.

If you want peace and order in your home, the woman must feel loved. She must know that her husband loves her with all of his heart.

Men, love your wives according to Ephesians 5:
So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church.
(Eph. 5:28-29)
