Ukranian Anatoly Kaluzhny has proven himself to be a man to seize an opportunity.  When the fall of communism allowed for open worship, Kaluzhny's New Life Church in Kiev held services in the October Palace, former home of the KGB, where 100,000 people were put to death in the basement prison.  The Salas will be ministering at New Life church in September, if the political situation allows.

As unrest rocks Ukraine, Pastor Kaluzhny has led his countrymen to seek God in dramatic ways.  Asked by a television station in Kiev to come down to the station to pray for his country on-air, he was asked by the news anchor whether or not Christians should go to their town squares to protest or stay at home and pray.  Anatoly says he shot up a prayer for wisdom before answering that each believer should do as he felt God leading him personally.  Upon arriving home to his own family, his young adult son, said, "Dad, I want to go to the square and pray!"  "No!" Anatoly, told him, "You stay home and pray."

“No, I am going,” countered Anatoly’s son. “Then I am going with you!” Anatoly said. They were joined by many others from New Life Church, who prayed round the clock for days, setting up a prayer tent in the capital's Independence Square, also known as the Maidan.

As the chaos mounted, the use of rubber bullets and shock grenades gave way to security forces firing on the thousands of protesters. Sharpshooters were positioned on the roofline of buildings surrounding the square and shots flew through the church’s prayer tent, but no one praying was injured. February 20, 2014 was the most lethal day in Ukraine since independence from the Soviet Union more than 22 years ago.

When asked if this crisis is bringing Ukrainians back into church, Pastor Anatoly responded, “The entire country has become a church. Every town square has become a church filled with Ukrainians seeking God for our country.”

Will you join in praying that God will turn hearts toward him and bring peace in Ukraine?
