Home sweet home—the training ground.

Three of the sweetest words in the English language are mother, home and Heaven.
These three words all center on the middle one. No one thinks of their mother without thinking about home. And home should be a picture and reminder of Heaven itself.

God ordained that the spiritual lives of His people be centered in the home.
You shall lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul...You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down and when you rise up. And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, that the days of your children may be multiplied in the land of which the LORD swore to your fathers to given them, like the days of the heavens above the earth.
(Deut. 11:18-2)

6. Teach your children the fear of God.

What the Word Says:
  • Psalm 34:11 Come you children, listen to me, I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
  • Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
  • Proverbs 3:13-16 Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding; For her proceeds are better than the profits of silver, and her gain than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies, And all the things you may desire cannot compare with her. Length of days is in her right hand, In her left hand riches and honor.
7. Teach them about divine protection.

What the Word Says:
  • Psalm 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
  • Psalm 91:10-11 No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; For he shall give his angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.
  • James 4:7-8 Submit yourselves therefore to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you…..come close to God, and He will come close to you.
8. Develop in them a servant's heart.

What the Word Says:
  • Mark 10:43 (NLT) Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant.
  • Acts 20:35 And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.
  • Matthew 7:12 (NLT) Do for others what you would like them to do for you.
  • Isaiah 58:6 (NLT) Free those who are wrongly imprisoned, lighten the burden of those who work for you, Let the oppressed go free, and remove the chains that bind people, share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help. Then your salvation will come like the dawn, and your wounds will quickly heal. Your godliness will lead you forward, and the glory of the Lord will protect you from behind. Then you will call on the Lord and He will answer. Yes, I am here He will quickly reply.
9. Teach Them that they are gifted.

What the Word Says:
  • Psalm 139:16 (NLT) You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.
  • Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
  • 1 Peter 4:10-11 As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If anyone speaks, let him speak as of the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified in Jesus Christ.
10. Teach them about the need for good friends.

What the Word Says:
  • Proverbs 18:24 A man who has friends must himself be friendly, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
  • Proverbs 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.
  • 2 Timothy 3:1-5 In the last days …people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful, proud, scoffers of God, disobedient to parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving. They will slander others and have no self-control, they will be cruel and have no interest in what is good. They will betray their friends , be reckless, puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than love God. They will act as if they are religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. You must stay away from people like that.
God has given our kids an extended growing time so they can be in our homes to be molded, protected, taught and developed under our guidance. With His help we can make a success of the opportunity. No matter what challenges we face today, God's got the solution.
