Maintaining Right Attitudes

God's Armor Bearer Devotional
Written by Terry Nance

Now your attitudes and thoughts must all be constantly changing for the better. Yes, you must be a new and different person, holy and good. Clothe yourself with this new nature.
(Ephesians 4:23-24 TLB)

The Bible states that "many are called, but few are chosen" (Matt. 22:14). Becoming the chosen of God is a choice on your part to pray and to live in faith, integrity, diligence, and excellence of ministry. You must determine to have those attributes in your life and to be committed to the will of God no matter the cost.

Having and maintaining right attitudes is crucial if one is to be a true armorbearer. Allow the Holy Spirit to reveal the attitudes present in your heart. Ask Him to show you if you have failed to flow with your spiritual leaders. If you have, then make a quality decision to rid yourself of any trace of rebellion, strife, contention, competitiveness, and unforgiveness, and determine to faithfully fulfill your rightful place in the Body of Christ.

The enemy seeks to divide and conquer. He knows that "where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work" (James 3:16). It is impossible for the spiritual leader's church or ministry to reach its full potential if these attitudes are present in those he leads, especially if they are present in the one called to support him as armorbearer.

Choose today to rid yourself of any ungodly attitudes, and in their place, adopt those attitudes that are holy and good. Clothe yourself with the new nature.

Developing the Spirit of an Armorbearer
  • Recognize that the enemy is out to destroy the ministry that you are called to support.
  • Refuse to be used by the enemy by confessing any wrong attitudes you have toward your leader or his ministry and receive forgiveness.
  • Meditate on James 3:13–18 NIV and commit to walk in the wisdom of God that is pure, peaceable, full of good fruits, impartial, and without hypocrisy:

"Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him show out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace."
Heavenly Father, You know the condition of my heart even better than I know it myself. Reveal any wrong attitudes such as rebellion, envy, strife, contention, competitiveness, or unforgiveness. As I confess them to You, thank You that Your blood cleanses me from all unrighteousness. Today I commit to walk in the new nature You have given me, which is full of wisdom and good fruit. Amen.
