Anointed Word Daily Devotion for Youth
Written by Joel Gregory
"But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord" (1 Cor. 7:32).

Is pleasing God your first priority in life? Now, just take some time right now and locate yourself. Do you care more about pleasing the Lord or pleasing some guy or some girl?

What does it mean to be single? The word single means to be separate, unique, and whole. Hmm, that's good. Now to be alone is a different story, it means to be exclusive, isolated and solitary.

Can I give you a nugget here? If being single means to be unique, whole, separate and complete then to be totally single should be your number one goal. You shouldn't be in a relationship until you have learned to be totally single - before then you are not ready for a relationship.

You see, a single person doesn't need anything outside of God to make them happy. They are already complete in God. But the person who is alone will look for love in all the wrong places. They will take anything that comes their way; they just can't be by themselves, so they drag you in the mud with them.

For example, you barely even get in the house and he's calling you on the phone. "Where you been? What are you doing?" Then he starts showing up at places uninvited. "Who was that? Who were you talking to?" At first it's cute, then it begins to smother you.

On the other side, young man, she's so jealous that she wants to know everything. Now you have to give excuses for your actions all the time. Can you spell drama? Well, it's about to happen to you, brother.

Until you are truly and totally single, relationships will always be a negative experience. You have to learn to be separate, unique, and whole.

For example, I can't make my wife happy if she's not already happy. I can't complete her and she can't complete me. We both have to be complete in God. Then we won't put any pressure on each other and can just enjoy each other because we understand God is our source for happiness.

Hold on to this: it's an honor and privilege to be single. If you doing God's will and seeking your vocation - you are single, unique, whole, separate, and complete.

Scripture Reading: Colossians 2:6-10; Ephesians 3:17-19
