Manifestations of the Spirit

365 Days of Healing
Written by Mark Brazee
"But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; to another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues" (1 Cor. 12:7-10).

This is a list of the nine gifts, or manifestations, of the Spirit. In the past, people have sometimes thought this passage of Scripture was just talking about natural abilities that God gives people. But God calls them supernatural manifestations of the Spirit or sudden actions of the Holy Ghost.

Within this list of spiritual gifts, healing is included. The phrase "gifts of healing" refers to supernatural manifestations of the Holy Ghost to produce physical healings in the physical body. God works many kinds of miracles on the earth, but this scripture proves He performs healing miracles.

Now notice verse 11: "But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will." Not as we will, but as He wills. Many times we wish we could control the gifts of the Spirit. But we don't control them; they operate as God wills. The gifts are given to the Church, but the manifestations are controlled by the Holy Ghost.

This is the mysterious side of God. We don't know how or when the gifts are going to manifest, and we don't know for whom they will manifest. We just know that at times "the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal" (v. 7).

Confession:
My God is a mighty God. Because of His goodness and mercy,
He manifests His power through the nine gifts of the Spirit. I thank
God for the gift of healing manifesting in the body of Christ today.
