By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh.
This is referring to the Old Testament temple. There was a veil barring the door to the Holiest Place. People couldn’t go through that veil and enter the presence of God because of their sin. But Jesus has opened a new and living way for us to go through the curtain, right into the personal presence of God Himself.
The Message Bible says: Jesus has cleared the way by the blood of his sacrifice, acting as our priest before God. The “curtain” into God’s presence is His body.
We have an ever-living way to God, which Jesus opened up for us through the tearing up of the old veil when He died for us. That veil represented our human nature and all of its problems and limitations. Jesus has initiated a new and living way by which we come to God and He has consecrated it for us. After Jesus was finished, there was nothing left to block our entrance into the plan, power, purpose and presence of God.
Jesus tore away the limitations of my sin and human nature and opened God’s presence up for me. I walk and talk with God today, freely.
