Bear Their Infirmities

by Tim Davidson | A Verse A Day

We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.

(Rom. 15:1 KJV)

If your faith is strong, then you need to endure and help bear the infirmities of the weak. The word “infirmities” here mean weaknesses. We who have a strong faith ought to help the weak carry their burdens. We must not think only of ourselves, to please ourselves, but to invest time and energy into others.

The Message Bible says: Those of us who are strong and able in the faith need to step in and lend a hand to those who falter, and not just do what is most convenient for us. Strength is for service, not status.

Some people are overcome by weaknesses and are without strength. They will fail in life if we don’t take an interest in them. We who believe in Jesus have a Christian duty to be patient with the weaknesses of those who are not strong, who don’t yet trust God as we trust Him. We should try to make their day instead of our own. That would be different. That would be Jesus.

Today’s Thought to Take With You:

I believe in Jesus and therefore I am strong enough to help bear the weakness of those around me.
