By His Own Blood

by Tim Davidson | Featured Devotions

And not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.

(Heb. 9:12 NASB)

The blood of goats and calves couldn’t save anyone from sin. All it could do was cover it up so God didn’t see it and judge it. But Jesus went once for all into the most holy place, not on earth but in heaven, to free us from sin forever. He did this by offering His own pure blood instead of the blood of animals.

The Message Bible says: He also bypassed the sacrifices consisting of goat and calf blood, instead using his own blood as the price to set us free once and for all.

By presenting His own blood as a sacrifice for our sins, Jesus obtained, on behalf of all mankind, eternal redemption for us. The phrase “eternal redemption” means a perpetual ransoming. So never again do we have to worry that any of our sins will separate us from God. The blood of Jesus has cleansing power. Jesus is our eternal redeemer.

Today’s Thought to Take With You:

In Christ Jesus I have eternal redemption. I can live free of sin and its penalty.
