Can an Evil Person Put a Curse on a Christian?

by Joseph Cameneti | Articles, Christian Living

We live in a day when witchcraft and demonic practices of many kinds are being practiced. I want to know if a witch, or evil person of any type, can put a curse on a Christian.

The Bible teaches us that this can’t happen! An excellent example is when Balaam tried to curse the children of Israel.

Then the Israelites traveled to the plains of Moab and camped along the Jordan across from Jericho…. The Moabites said to the elders of Midian, “This horde is going to lick up everything around us, as an ox licks up the grass of the field.”

So Balak son of Zippor, who was king of Moab at that time, sent messengers to summon Balaam son of Beor, who was at Pethor, near the River, in his native land. Balak said, “A people has come out of Egypt; they cover the face of the land and have settled next to me.

“Now come and put a curse on these people, because they are too powerful for me. Perhaps then I will be able to defeat them and drive them out of the country. For I know that those you bless are blessed, and those you curse are cursed.”
(Num. 22:1, 4-6 NIV )

How can I curse those whom God has not cursed? How can I denounce those whom the LORD has not denounced?
(Num. 23:8 NIV)

Nevertheless the LORD your God would not listen to Balaam, but the LORD your God turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the LORD your God loves you.
(Deut. 23:5 NIV)

Balaam had a proven track record of speaking blessings and curses on people. However, God would not allow him to curse those whom God had blessed. I believe the same principle applies to the Christian today.
