Can I Be Forgiven of Murder?

by Joseph Cameneti | Articles, Christian Living

Before I was a Christian I murdered someone. Will I be held accountable for this action or can I be forgiven?

Murder is one of the most terrible sins, however, it is pardonable by the Lord. If someone committed murder without just cause, they can and are forgiven when they accept Jesus.
A good biblical example is the Apostle Paul. He was responsible for having Christians put into prison and put to death. Then he was converted. He became a part of the very movement he was fighting against.

I want you to notice what Paul said concerning himself, after his conversion.

Receive us; we have wronged no man, we have corrupted no man, we have defrauded no man.
(2 Cor. 7:2)

Paul had hurt and wronged many people before he accepted Christ as his Savior (Rom. 10:8-13). As a Christian he declares, “I’ve never wronged anyone.”

Paul realized that all his sins were forgiven and washed away by the blood of Jesus when he accepted Him as his Savior. He knew that the man who had done those awful things no longer lived. Notice these powerful truths as declared in the Scriptures.

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me” (Gal. 2:20).

“He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us” (Ps. 103:10-12).

In conclusion, you will not be accountable before God for any sin committed before you accepted Christ. On the other hand you will have to pay your dues to society for breaking the law.

Thank God heaven will be your future destination!
