One Bible in your hand is worth more than ten on the shelf.
“Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching” (1 Tim. 4:13).
Timothy was to devote himself to private as well as public reading of the Word. It was his duty to challenge the people to action through the Word and to teach them from the Word that they might be grounded in doctrine.
Each day most of us do some reading—we read the newspaper, a magazine perhaps, even a book.
Reading the Word should be a continual day-by-day experience, not just an occasional one.
One day a woman could not locate her Bible. Finally she asked her cleaning lady if she had seen it. The cleaning woman said, “Praise the Lord!” she went on to say, “When I begin to work at a new place, I hide the Bible if they have one.” “Why?” asked the employer. “To see how long it is before they miss it,” replied the cleaning woman.
How soon would you miss your Bible if it were hidden?
