Discovering A Vision For Life

by Joe McGee | Articles, Christian Living

Has the devil put a vision before you that you’re never going to change? If so, then stop and consider that you’re looking at life with natural eyes instead of spiritual eyes.

It is written, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him,”  but God has revealed it to us by His Spirit.
(1 Cor. 2:9)

Getting A Vision
The best way to get a vision is to get it from God. He has planned great things for each of us, but we have to ask Him to reveal them to us. God says, “You do not have because you do not ask” (James 4:2). To get a vision, we have to ask for it. We have to say, “God what do You have planned for me?”

Psalm 139:16 says that His plan for us was written in a book before we were ever born. God says His plans for you are great and mighty. He says He’ll prosper you and give you a future and a hope, and not one that will harm you. He says if you would ask Him, He’ll reveal His plans to you and to your children. (Jer. 33:3; Jer. 29:11; Duet. 29:29.)

A vision is not just for you in your lifetime. It’s to build something that lasts forever.

What the Word Says:
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” (Jer. 29:11)

“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” (Jer. 33:3)

“The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the word of this law.” (Deut. 29:29)

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for thos who love him”- but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. (1 Cor. 2:9)

What does all that do for us?

Once we get a vision and write it down, it gives us faith that the vision will manifest in the natural. Faith comes to us when we hear the Word of God. (Rom. 10:17)

Vision Will Lead You
In the Old Testament Joseph had a vision that he was going to do something great one day. When he had this dream from God, he was the runt of the family, but he knew that one day he was going to become a top dog.

He had a vision, and it kept him going for 20 years.

His brothers lied about him, hated him, despised him, and almost killed him. (Gen. 37) Potiphars’s wife lied about him, and he had to go to jail for it. (Gen. 39.) He helped Pharoh’s baker and butler while they were in prison with him, he begged them not to forget him when they got out, but they forgot and he stayed in that jail another year for a crime he didn’t commit. (Gen. 40)

Through all that, his vision took him onward and upward. He didn’t sit in his jail cell feeling sorry for himself. The Bible says, “And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatsoever they did there he was the doer of it” (Gen. 39:22 KJV).

He didn’t let immediate circumstances change what he believed. He knew God’s Word is true and he was going to stand on that in the face of anything else.

It’s as though Joseph was saying, “God gave me a vision, and I don’t care what you do to me. I’m going where God said I’m going.” He didn’t throw a fit and curse his situation.

Why?

Because God had given him a vision, and he knew nobody could stop him from fulfilling God’s plan for his life. Vision led Joseph, and vision will lead you and your family.

Children with a vision can take failure because they know they’re not through until the vision is completed.

When this is your attitude, you don’t get paralyzed with indecision and fear. You take life for all it’s worth to pursue the vision.

Every day you think, I’ve got this vision and I’m going to do something.

Seeing The Vision
The devil will throw natural things at you to try to shut you down, distract you, and make you give up. But if you can see with your spiritual eyes, you won’t let it stop you.

How we see the vision with spiritual eyes is to meditate on the Word and know God’s character and what His promises are.

If you can’t see the vision in your heart, you can’t possess it. You can only have what you can see. So how do you see youself five years from now? Do you see yourself stronger or weaker? Richer or poorer? Staying where you are or going somewhere?

Has the devil put a vision before you that you’re never going to change? If so, then stop and consider that you’re looking at life with natural eyes instead of spiritual eyes.

There’s little in the natural to make you think things would change for the better. The enemy is going to throw circumstances at you. He’s going to buffet you with test and trials of life. Jesus said those would come to all of us. (Luke 6:46)

If you don’t have spiritual insight, your natural eyesight will depress you and you’ll give up and pull back. God says, ” I have no pleasure in those who pull back.” (See Heb. 10:38)

God can do anything with us if we will just open our spiritual eyes, see what He sees, and do what He tells us to do.

We’re on a journey that just keeps getting better and better. We’re going from faith to faith and from glory to glory.

The vision God has planted in us for our lives will continue to get brighter and greater as we walk it out. With every step we take, God shows us more and we gain more.
