Does the Bible Foretell the Death of Jesus? Part 4

by Joseph Cameneti | Articles, Christian Living

Are there Old Testament prophecies (predictions) that foretold the death of Jesus?

The Fourth of Sixth Prophecies
Another prophecy that foretold the death of Jesus, the Messiah, dealt with His clothing being divided. It was foretold that people would actually cast lots for the ownership of His clothing.

This prophecy was given over one thousand years before Jesus was crucified.

The Prophecy
They divide My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots (Ps. 22:18).

The Fulfillment

And when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left.

Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” And they divided His garments and cast lots.
(Luke 23:33-34)

Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took His garments and made four parts, to each soldier a part, and also the tunic. Now the tunic was without seam, woven from the top in one piece.

They said therefore among themselves, “Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be,” that the Scripture might be fulfilled which says: “They divided My garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots.”

Therefore the soldiers did these things.
(John 19:23-24)
