Draw Me, Lord – Part Two

by Dick Mills | Uncategorized

“Draw me, we will run after thee…” (Song of Solomon 1:4).

We will run after thee expresses something of the energetic spirit Peter showed in John 21:7 when the Lord appeared to the disciples while they were out on the lake fishing. As soon as Peter heard that it was the Lord, he cast himself into the sea. It was as though he could not get to Jesus fast enough. “Draw us, Lord, and we will run after You.”

Jesus is the forerunner. He has left us an example. We can follow His steps (1 Pet. 2:21). It is always best for Jesus to assume the lead and for us to follow after.

We can easily complicate things by getting ahead of the Lord and marking out for ourselves a way of our own. “When He puts forth His own sheep. He goes before them. The sheep follow Him” (John 10:4-5).

This wonderful promise assures us two things:

  1. The Lord is drawing us toward Himself, and,

  2. We are following Him or running after Him.

He draws and we run. In Psalm 119:32, David said of the Lord: “I will run the way of thy commandments, when thou shall enlarge my heart. In verse 60 he writes: I made haste, and delayed not….”

It takes a lot of stamina to run after the Lord. In Isaiah He has promised the needed stamina to those who wait on Him: “…they shall run, and not be weary…” (Is. 40:31).
