Emmanuel – God With Us

by Tim Davidson | Featured Devotions

“Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. ”

(Matt. 1:23)

The prophets of old told us what to watch for: a virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will give Him the name Emmanuel. The plan God had in mind for the restoration of fallen man required God Himself to come and live with us, walk and talk with us, and save us from our sins.

The Message Bible says: “Watch for this—a virgin will get pregnant and bear a son; they will name him Emmanuel (Hebrew for ‘God is with us’).”

A child was born of the Virgin Mary. Who is the father of this child? God the Father is the father. What does that mean?

It means Jesus was born of a woman therefore He is 100 percent man. But He was conceived by His Father God, therefore He was 100 percent God. Emmanuel means God with us.

Today’s Thought to Take With You:

Jesus is God and man in one body. He came to show me what God is like. Jesus is Emmanuel, God with me.
