Hebrews 4:16 says, "Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need."

Why does Paul say, "Let us therefore…?" The previous two verses said, "Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin."

When you "come to the Lord," that may mean for some, "come to God in prayer," or "come to Him with a request," or even to some, "come to God in worship."

The question is, "How do you come to God?" This verse said, "Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain…" So how can I come boldly to the throne of God and not only give Him the worship and praise that He deserves, but also, obtain whatever I need?

The greatest hindrance to people receiving what they need from God is not a lack of faith. It is a lack of understanding that God's people are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. You see, many people already believe that only the righteous can approach the throne of God.

And yet, 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, "For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him."

Notice this carefully: "For {Father God} made {Jesus, who willingly volunteered} who knew no sin to be sin {to carry ALL sins to the cross} for us {which we were guilty of because of Adam's sin}, that we might become the righteousness of God in {Jesus Christ}."

You didn't deserve to become God's righteousness. You couldn't even earn your way to become God's righteousness. It was a  gift from God because of the finished work of Jesus, on the cross.

Now, here's the problem with most people's idea of  "righteousness." "If I can't earn it, then I don't deserve it!" The truth is, you can't earn it. Besides, righteousness is not doing the right things, but it is being placed in right standing with God, totally because of the Blood of Jesus.

Righteousness is the unearned right to stand in the presence of God. That's how you can "come boldly to the throne of grace, that you may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need."

We were guilty of sin by "involuntary-inheritance" because of Adam's original sin. And Jesus agreed to it, so that we might become the righteousness of God in or through Christ Jesus. We didn't deserve righteousness; we couldn't earn righteousness; it was God's free-gift; but now, we are clothed in God's righteousness.

Righteousness is not doing all the right things or making all the right decisions. Righteousness is the unearned right to stand in the presence of God, through the finished work of the cross

If you feel too ashamed and guilty to come boldly to God's throne, then know this:  Guilt and shame were nailed to the cross. If you feel too unworthy to come boldly to God's throne, feelings of "unworthiness" were also nailed to the cross.

No matter what you've done in life… don't you realize that Jesus paid your debt of sin in full?  So now, you can come boldly to the throne of God, with the intent to obtain and receive everything you need from God's supply.

So many people have dealt with the guilt and shame of their past mistakes and have failed miserably to get anything resolved. Why?  Because only one man, whose Name is Jesus, can fix, heal and erase your past. There is only one man, whose Name is Jesus, who can help you get past the shame you've lived with for so long.

People have failed in getting past the guilt and shame that keeps them from coming boldly to God because they keep trying to do it on their own. No one can do anything without Jesus. We must put our faith in the finished work of the cross. Did you hear that? … The finished work of the cross!  What does "finished" mean?  It means, "It is finished!" … "It's done!"

Jesus never sinned and never deserved to suffer and die on the cross for you. But, we must receive the fact that He was punished for all of our sins… so that we could go free and become the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.

"Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need."

God's provision for us, is found in our being the righteousness of God through the finished work of the cross, so that we are empowered to "come boldly to the throne of grace, and obtain help in time of need." …Think about it!
