Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
(Rom. 6:11 NASB)

Do you see yourselves as dead to sin? The word "dead" here refers to a corpse. Does a corpse struggle with people? Does a corpse have its feelings hurt each time someone says something that isn't kind or true? If we would consider ourselves to be dead to sin, our life could be very carefree.

The Message Bible says: From now on, think of it this way: Sin speaks a dead language that means nothing to you; God speaks your mother tongue, and you hang on every word. You are dead to sin and alive to God. That's what Jesus did.

Being dead isn't the only image God portrays here. We are dead to sin but alive to God. When we think of ourselves as dead to the power of sin, Jesus Christ gives us His life to enjoy. Our life takes on a different look inside and out. Think of yourself as freed from sin so that you can spend your time and energy living for God, pleasing Him in every way every day.

Today's Thought to Take With You:
I reckon myself to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
