"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."
(James 4:7)

There is a progression of steps given to us in this verse. If we will follow them closely, we will get the promised results. First, submit yourself to God. Surrender to Him, put yourself under God's authority so He has complete influence in your life. Next, resist the devil. Stand firm against him, say, "No way devil!" and mean it.

The Message Bible says: "So let God work his will in you. Yell a loud no to the Devil and watch him scamper."

The end result of this progression is that the devil will flee from you. One translation says he will flee from you as in terror. Why is that? We are no match for the devil's trickery on our own. That's why we must first submit ourselves to God. Then, as we resist the devil, it is Jesus, in us, resisting him.

As you yield your life to Jesus, when the devil is actually looking at you, he'll see Jesus in you. The devil already has dealt with Jesus during His death, burial and resurrection and he wants no part of Jesus again.

Today's Thought to Take With You:
Today I submit myself to God, I resist the devil, and he flees from me as in terror.
