I heard in my heart the other day, “The more you yield, the more you’re healed!” I have been thinking about that a lot lately, so I looked up the word “yield.” To yield means, be the cause or source of, end resistance as under pressure or force, give over; surrender or relinquish to the physical control of another.

Some of my favorite definitions are to move in order to make room for someone or something, and to be fatally overwhelmed, to cease opposition, stop fighting! I need to stop fighting and just yield to the Holy Spirit. The more I do that, the more I will be healed! The Bible states that unless a seed falls to the ground and dies, it will not live, but when it does fall to the ground and dies, it will live. That is being fatally overwhelmed by the Holy Spirit; you are dead in Christ, and then He moves in to take over!

I was driving and coming down the ramp to go unto the highway but this car would not yield to my car and allow me entrance to the highway. He was forcing me to go on the shoulder of the road and even put my brakes on to stop completely.

After that incident, I started thinking about how many times I must do that to the Holy Spirit. He is trying to get on my road, on my path, to help make a change in my life, but instead of yielding to Him, I make Him get on the shoulder and even put His brakes on. I don’t surrender or relinquish to the physical control of another. I don’t surrender to Him when all He is trying to do is make a change in me and for me! Surrendering all to God means to yield upward—getting a heavenly perspective—rather than to our current circumstances. That word “surrender” in Greek means to yield up and to entrust.

When we yield up all control to the Holy Spirit and give Him the right of way instead of forcing Him on the shoulder of our life, then change comes.
