Another Christian who said that I'm not going to heaven unless I speak with tongues recently confronted me. Does a Christian have to speak with other tongues in order to be saved?

No! Salvation has nothing to do with speaking in tongues. According to the Bible, speaking in tongues is a benefit of which we can partake. Operating in this gift builds us up and it also enables us to speak out of our spirits (1 Cor. 14:4,14-18).

Salvation - which results in heaven being your home - is obtained by simply believing on Jesus. Notice this powerful section of Scripture:
And this is the record that God hath given to us, eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
(1 John 5:11-13)
The Apostle John was writing this letter to saints who had been confronted by false teachers who were telling them that they weren't saved.

He wanted to let them know that Jesus was all they needed for salvation. In addition, it's important to understand that the Holy Spirit is living on the inside of every believer, even if they don't speak with other tongues. "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?" (1 Cor. 3:16).

You have all of the Holy Spirit (if you believe in Jesus, then Heaven is going to be your home)!
