When we study the Bible, the Word of God, it is very important that we study it in such a way that we know the whole truth. We must study God’s Word in context. We must not pull out small phrases and base our entire lives on a partial sentence.

Unless we know the whole truth and act on the truth, we cannot achieve complete results. Remember, a partial truth can be twisted into a lie. The truth leads to freedom and a lie will always lead to bondage. A partial truth may sound logical but the result can be deadly.

Jesus said in John 8:44 that Satan is a liar. Jesus went on to say that not only was Satan a liar, but that he, Satan, was the father of lies.

A good liar does not expose his lie. He tries to make the lie appear to be truth. In other words, a liar tries to deceive someone into believing the lie is truth. This is what we call deception.

Second Corinthians 11:3 says: "But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ."

Here we see that Satan deceived Eve in the Garden of Eden. He made her believe a lie and because she believed the lie instead of the truth, she was driven out of the garden and cursed. Satan has not changed.

Let me give you an example of a partial truth. Let's say you wanted to jump out of an airplane. Personally, as a pilot, I wonder about anyone who would jump out of an airplane. Myself, I love to fly. Ten thousand feet in the air and sailing above the clouds is where I love to be, but I have never jumped out of an airplane, and I never intend to.

Well anyway, you may believe that if you jump out of an airplane with a parachute, you will float safely to the ground. You can buy books on parachuting. You can attend parachuting classes. You can watch parachuting videos and even join a parachuting club and never miss a meeting.

But unless you wear the parachute properly and follow the instructions exactly, you will have problems.

When you hit the ground clutching your unopened parachute, it is too late to discover that you must pull the ripcord. Having the parachute is not enough. Knowing that it will work is not enough. Knowing the instructions is not enough. You must know the instructions and act on them in order to survive the jump.

It's the same principle with the Word of God. Too often Christians know only that the Word works without knowing what makes it work. Knowing that God heals is not enough. Knowing that we can be saved through the blood of Jesus is not enough. Knowing that we are to be filled with the Holy Spirit is not enough. We must act on the Word.

Knowing that the ripcord exists on the parachute and what it does is not enough. Even knowing that the ripcord exists and believing with all your heart that if you pull it, the parachute will open and you would be saved is not enough. You must pull the ripcord!

In the same way, knowledge about the Word of God without action is not enough. Knowledge without action is not faith. Faith is believing that God has done what He said He would do and acting on it.

Belief without action is not faith. Faith must have action.
