Let integrity and uprightness preserve me for I wait on thee. (Ps. 25:21)

If you are going to wait gracefully before the Lord and do it in accordance with the Word, you have to maintain your integrity and uprightness. Integrity can be defined as “firm adherence to a moral standard.” Our moral standard as Christians is the Word of God. If we’re going to wait on the Lord, it needs to be while we live in line with the Word of God and firmly adhere to the Word of God.

For example, facing a financial crisis does not give you an exception from tithing or sowing seed into God’s kingdom. You don’t stop giving while waiting for God to bring the answer. Living with integrity means you tithe and sow seed into God’s kingdom, since it is part of the standard of God’s Word we are to live by.

Another example is if a husband is believing for God to restore his marriage, but continues to have an affair, he is disobeying God’s direction to love his wife as Christ loves the church. Until you wait on the Lord in integrity and obedience to God’s Word, change won’t come in that area.

If you’re in a physical battle and waiting on the Lord to show you your way of escape from an infirmity you are facing, don’t feed yourself junk, sugar, and fat. Don’t fill your body with chemicals or foreign things. You won’t find a way of escape.

The point is, while you wait on the Lord, firmly adhere to the moral standard and definition of right behavior given to us in the Word of God. If there’s some place in your life that you know you’re not conforming to the requirement of the Word, I would say you’re not going to find strength in that area. You will get weary and faint until you learn to wait God’s way and live firmly planted in the ethic of behavior called His Word. Then you can begin waiting on the Lord scripturally.

Now, our behavior is covered by integrity, but our motive is covered by uprightness. That word “uprightness” in Psalm 25:21 refers to motive of heart. The motive of your heart needs to be right: that includes the way you deal with people and your reasons for doing things. You need to walk in God’s light—nothing hidden, no secrets. Live aboveboard. That’s an upright life.

So, if you are in the middle of waiting for your prayers to manifest, ask yourself if these two characteristics are a part of your life. Are you walking with integrity and uprightness? These two things must be in place if you want to receive God’s promises in your life.
