Hope can be defined as a confident expectation. I heard one minister call hope a “positive imagination”. In the Bible the words “hope”, “vision” and “desire” all are synonymous terms. I believe hope is seeing with the eyes of your heart, or “spiritual” vision. Just as your body has five senses, so does your spirit.

The Word of God refers all five senses of the spirit:
  • TASTE - How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth! (Ps. 119:103)
  • TOUCH - And we have confidence in the Lord touching you. (2 Thess. 3:4)
  • SMELL - an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, well pleasing to God. (Phil. 4:18)
  • HEARING - He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. (Matt. 11:15)
  • SEEING - Yet a little while and the world seeth me no more but you see me: because I live you shall live also. (John 14:19)

While I believe that hope is a confident expectation, I think many times we believe it is something that God is going to do for us based on what we see in the Word of God. However, God has already done all He is ever going to do for us, or that needs to be done in the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord. Our hope or confident expectation is in what the Lord has already done.

The Bible describes hope as an anchor of the soul:
Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
(Heb. 6:19-20)
Notice in these verses our hope has already entered into the holiest, His name is Jesus. This is not something we are waiting to happen or expecting God to do in the future. It is already done. Jesus has entered into “within the veil”, the very presence of God for us and sat down because His work is finished. This is what our confident expectation is based on.

Any biblical hope, revelation, vision or spiritual sight is really a revelation of Jesus Christ. If you receive a revelation of being healed, you really receive a revelation of Jesus Christ, your healer. If you receive a revelation of prosperity, you receive a revelation of Jesus Christ, your provider. It is the same with any revelation you receive from the Word of God. Every word of God is a revelation of Jesus, the express image of God.
Not only that, but if you are born again, Jesus by the Holy Spirit lives in you.Christ in you, the hope of glory.
(Col. 1:27)
In 1 Corinthians 13 the Bible says hope is alive, along with faith and love. Peter called it a living hope by the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. (1 Peter 1:3)

When we were born again the faith of Jesus came into our spirit because Jesus came into our spirit. We became one spirit with him. We were born again by the faith of Jesus and all of that faith is still in our spirit.
We have the same spirit of faith, according as it is written I believed therefore have I spoken, we also believe and therefore we speak.
(2 Cor. 4:15)
We have the obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.
(2 Peter 1:1)
In our born again spirit, we already have the faith of Jesus. The Apostle Paul said he lived by the faith of Jesus, not faith in Jesus, but the faith of Jesus.
I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live, yet not I but Christ liveth in me and the life I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of Jesus.
(Gal. 2:20)
