The Lord asked me one time, "What was the first gift I gave to man after creating him?" I said, "Genesis 1:26 says, 'God gave man dominion and authority.'" Then He said, "What was the second gift I gave to man?" Well, I really hadn't thought about it that way, so I said, "I don't know."

He said, "Well, if gift number one came in Genesis 1:26, surely gift two would follow those verses. Read it again." So I read it again, and it says, "And God gave him every herb bearing seed." The second gift was seed.

So God has given us the authority to determine our own destiny based upon the seeds that we sow. God is saying to Adam, "I am giving you seed. If you plant this seed, it will be for your provision. If you don't plant it, then it won't grow. If you eat it, then that's the end of your harvest. It's up to you what you do with your seed."

So from the very beginning God intended for man to be a sower of seeds. The Bible says that as long as the earth remains, seedtime and harvest shall not cease (Gen. 8:22). The Apostle Paul said, "Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." The Phillips Translation says, "A man's harvest in life depends entirely on the seed that he sows."

In other words, everything in your life right now is the result of the seeds that you've sown. God intended for you and I to be seed sowers not just in finances, but in everything. Our words are seeds. Our actions are seeds. Our very lifestyle is a seed.

Now the beautiful thing about that is when sowing is your lifestyle, God promises in 2 Corinthians 9 that He will always provide seed for the sower. When you make up your mind to be a seed-sower every day of your life and always look for opportunities to sow seed, then God promises that sowers will never be without seed.

A sower in the Bible is not a part-time planter. You may plant some tomato seeds in your flowerbeds, but it's doubtful that somebody will walk up, notice your flowerbeds and say, "I didn't know you were a farmer." Just having a few tomato plants doesn't make you a farmer. Just giving on Sunday doesn't make you a sower.

When Jesus talks about a sower, He's talking about a lifestyle of giving. I don't know what you need, but I do know this, you probably already have the seed for everything you need. And if you will act on what God told Adam, then we will get the kind of results that God promised.

There's a phrase in Mark 4 that I really love. It says, "When the Word is sown it becomes." Every seed that is sown becomes something. The seed you have now can become what you need. How do I know? It's spiritual law. The earth revolves around this law. Whether you realize it or not, this law is working for you right now.

Every seed will produce after it's own kind. If you plant apples, you will get apples. If you plant tomatoes, you'll get tomatoes. If you plant money, you'll get money. That's the law of Genesis.

Now, don't just stop with money. If you sow friendliness, you will reap friends. If you sow discord and strife, you will reap that in your life. Everything revolves around seedtime and harvest.

I learned from Charles Capps that if you're down to your last dollar, don't dare spend it, plant it. Don't eat your seed. You may not have what you need right now but you do have the seed that will become what you need. So here are the guidelines to follow when planting seed:
1) Find a place where the soil is good - that is very important. Your return has everything to do with where you sow your seed.
2) Sow according to the kind of increase you need.
3) Don't just focus on the seed. Focus on what it can become.
4) Expect the spiritual law of supernatural increase to work in your behalf, and God will confirm it with signs following.

Why does God want you to have a great harvest? So needs will be met with plenty left over to sow into the lives of others. That is His ultimate plan for all of us.
