How does God direct your steps when you pray and ask His advice?

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.
(Prov. 3:5-6)
God can direct our steps by speaking to us in our inner man and telling us what to do. He has and will operate this way!

I also believe that God will direct our paths by putting the right desires, thoughts, and ideas in our hearts. Notice this verse: "Commit your works to the LORD, and your thoughts will be established" (Prov. 16:3).

When a Christian acknowledges or commits his or her works or doings to the Lord, He will actually cause them to have right thoughts, ideas, and desires. When a Christian comes to the place where they say, "I'm going to give my life for Jesus and do whatever He wants me to do," then God begins to cause his or her thoughts to be established or to be right.
Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.
(Ps. 37:4-5)
This verse seems to imply that God lets us have our desires if we delight in Him. I believe these verses aren't stating just that, but that they are stating that if we delight in God, He will put His desires in our hearts, and then He will bring "it" - those desires - to pass.

If a person loves God and delights in Him, God will direct his/her path by putting His very desires in that person.
