My thoughts are always in turmoil. I know the Word says I can renew my mind. But what are specific ways that I can control my thought life?

There will always be times when you have to cast down vain thoughts (2 Cor. 10:5). The Bible does teach that we can control our thought life. We control our thought life by filling our minds with light or good things; this leaves no room for bad things. Let's take a look at two Scriptures that teach us along this line:
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
(Phil. 4:8 NKJ)

You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.
(Isa. 26:3 NKJ)
Both of these verses deal with our thoughts. How we occupy our minds will determine our mental state. If we keep our minds on God, and the things of God, we will be kept in a state of mental peace and we will control our thought life.

Did you notice how we're told to think on good things and not bad things, positive things and not negative things? We should focus on the good report and not the bad report. We should think about that which is pure and not that which is impure. Darkness is the absence of light. If you don't think on the good reports, and the bad reports fill your mind, there will be darkness.

However, if you fill your mind with light (the good report), there will be no room for the darkness (the bad report). Again, this is how we become mentally strong enough to cast bad thoughts down when they come.
