On hearing his words, some of the people said, "Surely this man is the Prophet." Others said, "He is the Christ." Still others asked, "How can the Christ come from Galilee? "Does not the Scripture say that the Christ will come from David's family and from Bethlehem, the town where David lived?" (John 7:40-42).

Jesus could have logically convinced people who He was, but He chose not to. When people argued that the Messiah wasn't supposed to come out of Nazareth, Jesus just sat there and listened to them. He did not respond. Now think about it. Jesus was the smartest person who ever lived. He knew the Scriptures and the prophecies better than anyone else. He could have taken those Scriptures and blown them away. He could have logically convinced them that He came out of Bethlehem, was born of a virgin, and was from the line of David. But He chose not to.

When we talk to someone about the Lord, we want to use all kinds of scriptures and reasons to make them believe logically that Jesus is real. But the fact is, Jesus is so much bigger than logic. The God who created this world is beyond our human ability to logically understand Him. Jesus could have convinced them logically, but in doing so He would have belittled the bigness of the truth He had come to share with them.

People can be logically convinced and still not change. In trying to tell someone about the Lord, you can logically have all your arguments lined up, but they still may not believe. You can even get them to contradict themselves, yet if their heart is hard and they have blinders on their eyes, they still won't believe.

Jesus knew that the truth He had come to share was so much bigger than logic that He blew right past the logic to get into men's hearts - to get them to see with the eyes of their hearts and not just with the logic of their minds. Too many people are "logical" Christians, or mental Christians. They believe in Jesus as long as it makes sense. But as soon as it defies their logic - boom, they're out because it doesn't compute in their head. They think their mind is all-knowing, and if they're unable to figure something out with their mind then it must not be real or true.

Jesus chose not to use logic to woo people's hearts, but did a number of other things to try to prick their hearts so their eyes would be opened, they would see the truth, and see Him for who He really is. Today, put aside the logic that says that if you can't figure it out in your head, it must not be true. Truth is knowing your life has been changed forever by the living God. Truth is knowing you have been forgiven of your sins. Truth is knowing Jesus is real in your life!
