They will be my people, and I will be their God. I will give them singleness of heart and action, so that they will always fear me and that all will then go well for them and for their children after them. I will make an everlasting covenant with them: I will never stop doing good to them, and I will inspire them to fear me, so that they will never turn away from me.
(Jer. 32:38-40 NIV)
God inspires us to fear Him. To inspire means “to influence, move, or guide by divine or supernatural inspiration.”  God inspires us, not to be afraid of Him, but to fear being far from Him. His fear inspires awe, honor, and reverence in our hearts.

God inspires us to fear Him because He desires us to be near Him. God isn’t shortsighted. He sees the eternal picture, and He never wants us to turn away from Him. He establishes the fear of the Lord in our hearts so that we will live into our eternal destinies.

Satan attempts to thwart destiny by fooling people into following his path of sin, desolation, and destruction. But God’s Word clearly warns that our time on earth is fleeting. Wasting it on the ways of the world is folly.
Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.
(James 4:14 NIV)
We must act in accordance with God’s guidance during our short time here. We are called to pursue His will for us before time vanishes like a vapor. We do not want to lose the window of time we are given to accept Jesus as Savior and to submit to Him as Lord.

By filling our hearts with holy fear, God gives us singleness of heart and action. He tells us where to focus. We must then honor Him enough to follow His commands.
The fear of God keeps us continually aware that nothing can be hidden from Him, even the most secret things, and we know nothing will escape His judgment—and His judgment is just. If we lack this understanding, we can become deceived into believing God overlooks or even doesn’t see lawlessness, and we take comfort in an unscriptural mercy that doesn’t exist. **

God’s promise to those who fear Him: He will never stop doing good to you. Never! Don’t let Satan steal the promise of God’s goodness from you. Fear the Lord and let Him lead you to your eternal destination.
