Traveling in a different city almost every week is a great learning experience. Road construction, detours, one way streets, no left turn and no "U" turn signs make it impossible to reach your destination without stopping for directions.

It is wonderful when someone is able to direct you to the precise place that you need to be. Suddenly, what seemed impossible only moments before is no longer a problem. Confidence and expectation fill your heart when you know you are on the right highway moving toward your destination.

Your Christian walk is a lot like that highway. There is no reason for you to go around in circles, never reaching your destination. When you don't know which way to turn, or if you lose your way, just stop and ask God for directions.

I know that sounds too easy to be true, but when you daily spend time in God's presence, He is able to reveal His path for your life. He wants to direct each step that you take and be your personal guide in life.
But when He, the Spirit of Truth (the Truth-giving Spirit) comes, He will guide you into all the Truth (the whole, full Truth). For He will not speak His own message on His own authority; but He will tell whatever He hears from the Father; He will give the message that has been given to Him, and He will announce and declare to you the things that are to come that will happen in the future. He will honor and glorify Me, because He will take of (receive, draw upon) what is Mine and will reveal (declare, disclose, transmit) it to you.
(John 16:13-14)
Follow The Directions
I could sit for hours listening to my mother-in-law describe the many times the Holy Spirit revealed things to her. My favorite story was when she ministered God's love to a young girl standing at the edge of the Mississippi River ready to commit suicide.

One day while washing dishes, the Lord told Velma, "Get in the truck and drive where I tell you to go." Immediately she loaded the kids in the truck and took off, making turns wherever the Holy Spirit directed. When Velma spotted a girl standing at the river's edge, she instantly knew why God directed her to that spot. She told her kids to stay in the truck as she called out to the broken hearted young girl.

Velma learned that the girl had decided to kill herself rather than tell her parents that she was pregnant. But instead of meeting death at the bottom of a river, she met someone filled with the love of God.

A life was saved and given new direction that day and God was glorified because someone was obedient to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Many years later, Jesse and I met that girl in one of our services. But she was no longer a lonely young girl. She was a married woman with five young children and living for Jesus. God is so good!

The Word of God tells us about many people that were victorious because they obediently followed His directions. In the wilderness, God led His people with a cloud. Whenever the cloud moved on, so did they. Later, after the tabernacle was built, Moses entered into the cloud which surrounded the Holy of Holies to talk to God while people stood outside.

Hebrews chapter 11 lists the great "Heroes of the Faith" and cheers us on to victory in Chapter 12:1: "Since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance, and the sin which so easily entangles us and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us" (NAS).

Today the Holy Spirit is standing ready to direct us in our walk with God. We don't have to wait outside, as the people did in the old covenant, we can boldly come to the throne of grace in our time of need. His promise to lead us into all truths and to direct our paths is still available today.

Perhaps today you are at a crossroad in your life and need to hear from God. His Word promises to, "instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye" (Ps. 32:8).

You can pray Psalms 27:11 today, "Teach me thy way, O Lord, and lead me in a plain path." Begin to apply Proverbs 3:5,6 in your life: "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths."

God knows us better than we know ourselves and is standing ready to reveal, declare and disclose things by His Spirit. Jeremiah 29:11 says, "For I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope" (NAS).

God has a great future for you that is far above anything that you can imagine. When you take the time to get into His presence, He will direct your path.

Highway To God
Getting into God's presence is not a hard thing. If you feel like you are going through a dry spell and haven't felt the presence of God in your life, you can do something about it today. All you have to do is praise Him from your heart.

Psalms 68:4 says to "Sing to God, sing praises to His name, cast up a highway for Him Who rides through the deserts - His name is the Lord-be in high spirits and glory before Him" (AMP).

When I read that verse, I realize that my praise to God creates a platform for Him to move in a miraculous way in my life. I can cast up a highway that will carry me above the problems of life and into the presence of God.

My praise also opens the way for God to flood the deserts (waste areas, non-productive areas of my life) with refreshing water so that I can live a fruitful life. It's up to me. God is looking for someone that will worship Him in spirit and in truth and step into His presence. He desires to inhabit the praise of His people.

It's Your Choice
While in the presence of the Lord one day, He showed me through a vision the importance of taking the right step. Instantly I saw two things: a revolving door and an escalator. I knew that I had to make a choice.

A step onto the revolving door would lead me in circles and wear me out. But one easy step on the escalator would carry me into the presence of God and renew my strength.

God showed me that when I neglect time with Him, I get stuck in that revolving door and stay frustrated. But when I spend time praising Him, suddenly I am climbing high above the distractions and demands of this life and walking with the Most High.

Things look a whole lot different when you stand in God's presence. In a moment He can unravel the most complicated situations and fill you with an unexplainable peace. He can make a way where there is no way!

We don't have to walk the same road as the world and live in the potholes of life. Jesus redeemed us on the cross of Calvary and set a glorious highway before us.

It is not cluttered with detours and it is never closed for construction. Jesus paved it with His precious blood and has reserved it for all that will come unto Him. Step onto God's highway to glory and get ready for the ride of your life!
