Let's consider the stories of Joseph and Daniel, two of my favorite Bible characters. Their parents had planted some truth inside them, and they had a vision of who they were and of what they were to do.

Both Joseph and Daniel ended up in a foreign country under the leadership of heathens. They were people of the wrong color and from the wrong culture who spoke that wrong language and practiced the wrong religion.

In these strange lands, they had no family, no friends, no finances. Yet both of them were given great authority over these heathens.

Do you know what was said about Daniel under King Darius? Scripture says "...An excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm" (Dan 6:3).

Now Darius, being a heathen, didn't know God and didn't care to know Him. But he saw something special in Daniel; he just didn't know what it was. Yes, there was "something special" about Daniel: it was the Spirit of Almighty God at work in his life!

There were three heathen kings who, one after the other, had run that country, and Daniel sat under their regimes. Each of those kings saw the good job Daniel could do, so he was put in a position of authority and kept in charge.

I want you to realize that there can be this kind of promotion in our children's lives, too. With the Spirit of God inside them, they can walk out into the world and be blessed as they follow God's plan and purpose for their lives.

That's what I want for my children. I want them to achieve everything God has for them, whether living under my roof or going out into the world.

Wherever they are, I want God to look at them and speak those beautiful words: "Well done, thou good and faithful servant" (Matt. 25:20-21).

A Godly Seed
In dealing with children, no two of them are the same. As stated in Psalm 127, verse 3, our children are a reward from God.

But, Mom and Dad, you will never hear from the world that children are a reward from God. Instead, you will read how they cost you so much money and take up so much of your time.

Through the book of Proverbs, there are two lists of rewards which having children will bring to us. One list is positive and one is negative. Our children can bring us blessing, honor, peace and prosperity; or they can bring grief, sorrow, shame and dishonor.

According to the book of Malachi, God isn't looking just for a seed, but for a godly seed (Mal. 2:15).

My Seed Shall Be Mighty
Many times I have had people say to me, "But Joe, aren't you concerned about your children growing up in today's world? Who will be out there for your children to marry? There aren't going to be any virgins left on this planet. Everybody will be dying of AIDS!"

"No, they won't," I say. "I have five daughters and a son, so there are five godly young men and a godly young woman somewhere out there who are still virgins and are being trained up for my children."

Then I quote God's Word to them. I say about my children what God's Word says in Psalm 112. (You have to choose what you are going to believe for yourself. Don't look to your neighbors or your friends; look to God's word.)
Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.
(Ps. 112:1-2)
His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.

"Big deal," they say. "Maybe each of your children will find a good godly spouse who is a virgin, but they'll have to work two or three jobs between them just to live. With so much inflation, a normal house will cost three hundred thousand dollars."

"I don't care if houses cost a million dollars," I say. "If I fear God and delight in His commandments, blessings will come to my children. As Psalm 112:3 says, they will have wealth and riches in their house.

"Okay, so what if your kids do get wealthy?" they say. "I have seen marriages fall apart."

"Yes, it can happen," I say. "But God is the great Redeemer and Restorer."

Psalm 112, verse 4, says, "Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness...." If we will just hang tough and stand on His Word, God promises to show up on our behalf.
