"He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.... He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler" (Ps. 91:1-2,4).

No matter where you live, there are no safe places anymore in this earth. No matter where you go there is no security outside of God. But as believers, we have security everywhere we go because God is looking after us. He's our shield, our fortress, our refuge.

Absolute safety belongs to the one who says of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress." That is the one of whom David said, "He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust; his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid..." (Ps. 91:4-5).

To live free while you're here in the earth, you must know the truth of God's covenant promises to you in Christ, and use that truth like a shield and a buckler.

How do you use the truth like a shield and a buckler? By trusting in it. By being steadfast in your faith and by staying in the Word every day. Proverbs 18:10 in The Amplified Bible says, "The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the [consistently] righteous man-upright and in right standing with God-runs into it and is safe, high [above evil] and strong."

When you stay in God's Word consistently, His words will become the first things that come to your mind in any situation so you can speak them out in faith. His promises will rise up within you in times of trouble and be the shield, fortress or refuge you need.

When events in the world start to look dark and troubled, don't be moved by the things that are going on around you. Remember, instead, that God has the ability, the wonderful ability, to deliver you.
