I know that there are some people who really get shook up when I use certain Scriptures in the Bible. When I say that they can stand on the same ones, they worry and think, "That Scripture isn't for me. Jesus was talking to His disciples." Or they think, "Paul said that when he was writing to that Theo guy; it isn't really meant for me."

You may have read John 15:1-12, where Jesus tells His disciples He is the true vine and they are the branches, and said to yourself, "Really though, wasn't that just to the people of that day? Does that really apply to me? After all, Jesus said it over 2000 years ago to people who are dead and gone! How can that apply to me?"

Jesus Was Speaking To All Of Us
If you've ever thought any of these things, allow me to let you in on a truth. When Jesus was speaking there to His disciples, He wasn't just speaking to them only. He was actually speaking to you and me today. But not just to you and me. He was speaking to our ancestors and our children, to generations in the past, present, and future.

How do I know that? Because of 2 Timothy 3:16-17. There it says:
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
That's the King James Version, and it is considered one of the more accurate versions we've got today.

The New International Version puts it another way. It states:
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
The New American Standard Bible says it this way:
All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.
The Amplified Bible goes even further. It says,
Every Scripture is God-breathed—given by His inspiration—and profitable for instruction, for reproof, and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, and for training in righteousness (that is, in holy living, in conformity to God's will in thought, purpose and action), so that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well-fitted, and thoroughly equipped for every good work.
As you can see, no matter what the version, the message is crystal clear: The Word of God is for you and me today. Hebrews 13:8 even further confirms this truth when it says, "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever."

Jesus' teachings are for you, and don't let anybody talk you out of that with a bunch of logistics and theology. That religious stuff will choke the life right out of you! The theological wilderness has no soft grass, or refreshing water of the Word. It is nothing but thickets and thorns and a royal pain in the you-know-what to try to live by.

Jesus, on the other hand, cut through all of that mess. His words were like a big sickle, slicing through the hypocrisy and making more room for the truth.

…Truth that still applies to us today.
