It's a common phrase we have all heard, "They fell in love," or "They fell out of love." There's more to love than falling. God's Word tells us just exactly what that is.

You Don't Fall In or Out of Love
Love isn’t something that you fall in or out of. Love is a decision that brings about an action.
For God loved the world so much that He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.
(John 3:16 NLT)
Love isn’t something you feel; it’s something you do.
If you love me, show it by doing what I’ve told you.
(John 14:15 MSG)
“Love” is the most expensive word you’ll ever use. If doesn’t cost you something, then it isn’t love.

What Love Is and What Love Does
God is Love.
…Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
(1 John 4:7-8 NLT)
Love…  (1 Cor. 13:4-7)
•    Is patient
•    Is kind
•    Is not jealous or boastful or proud
•    Is not rude
•    Doesn’t demand its own way
•    Is not irritable
•    Keeps no record of wrongs
•    Doesn’t rejoice about injustice, but rejoices when truth wins out
•    Never gives up
•    Never loses faith
•    Is always hopeful
•    Endures through every circumstance

God is a Romantic
He wants to be chased. He loves fellowship. Since we are made in God’s image, fellowship must be important for us as well.
Come close to God, and God will come close to you.
(James 4:8 NLT)

So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
(Luke 11:9 NIV)

We love Him because He first loved us.
(1 John 4:19 NKJV)
Marriage is an illustration of how Christ loved the Church. He loved us when we were unlovable.

Your job is to love your spouse unconditionally. Don’t wait until everything is perfect. If you start walking in love, it will bear fruit in your marriage.

The Take Away
DON'T...
Let feelings determine if you “love” your spouse. Start acting on God’s love that was poured into your heart through the Holy Spirit (Rom. 5:5) whether you “feel” like it or not.

DO...
live out your "love" as an action word. Each day think of one way you can “show” your spouse that you love him or her.
