By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.
(Heb. 7:22 KJV)
The book of Hebrews is the book of better things. Hebrews 7:22 speaks of a better covenant. The word "testament" means "covenant." The Old Testament saints had a covenant with God.

Then we read in Hebrews 7:22 that Jesus became the surety or guarantee for us to enjoy a better covenant than they did. Let's take a look at the blessings the Old Testament or Covenant provided.

Getting Run Over By Blessing
Deuteronomy 28:1-14 tells us that their covenant provided healing for their bodies. It provided financial and material blessing. In the Old Testament their enemies would flee from them. Their children would be blessed.

If they diligently harkened to the voice of the Lord, blessings would run them over and overtake them; in other words, if the blessing isn't manifested, it is chasing you and will catch up and run you over.

In light of the Old Covenant, the Word of God says that Jesus guarantees a covenant that is better than the old. First of all, if it is better that means all of the blessings of the old covenant are yours, plus something else.

We Are Worthy To Receive His Blessings
That begs the question, what is now added to the New Covenant? What else could there possibly be? Well, Jesus had to come to earth to restore our relationship back to God. Sinful man of the Old Covenant could not go before a righteous God. But Jesus, through His blood and through the cross, reconciled us to God.

Now when God looks at us, He sees us through the screen of the blood. And when we look at God, we see Him through the blood. We can speak directly to God and say, "God, I am worth receiving your blessings because of this blood."

Finally, because of the blood of Jesus, no longer does God the Father live in temples made by hands, but He lives in our hearts by faith in Jesus the Anointed One.

Now God can deal with us through the blood of Jesus. We can freely worship Him because of the blood. We can get instant forgiveness when we make mistakes because of the blood. We can fellowship with God because of the blood.

All this because Jesus went to the cross on our behalf. This Easter, let's be ever thankful to God for the Blood!
