Spring is blowing over the land once again and its breath feels so refreshing after a long, snowy winter. As the season changes and the flowers begin to bloom, I am drawn to Psalm 45. It is one of my favorites and is set to the tune of "Lilies."

It is easy to see why the writer borrwed a name from the golden lilies, whose bright array outshone the glory of Solomon. Special singers are appointed for so divine a hymn. Our Jesus deserves to be praised not with random ravings, but with the sweetest of all praise from those who love Him so deeply.

The purest hearts in His temple are the most harmonious singers in the ears of God. The acceptable song to Jesus is not one of the most tuneful voices but those who sing with sanctified affections.

This Psalm is a beautiful melody sung only to and about Jesus. It is the announcement of the heavenly Bridegroom and his elect spouse. We are the Bride and certainly in the season of this most intimate pouring out of His love, He is preparing His Bride to join Him in all of eternity.

In verse one the writer begins by saying, "My heart"—there is no writing that stirs the soul like that of the heart. To write from the wellspring of the heart is to pour out all that is in the depth of our being.

The writer is stirred to write this poetic expression of Christ not out of cold affection but rather out of an exhilarated heart bubbling with the choicest of words to express praise. In verse 2 the writer says, "You are fairer than the children of men; graciousness is poured upon Your lips; there God has blessed You forever. "

In fact, graciousness drips like oil from Jesus' lips. His Words to us are like oil dripping from His very being for His Bride. What a choice description of Christ's love as He whispers over us His divine message of redemption. In that, today my heart is stirred to please only Him!

There is no other longing in my heart. I echo with the writer that "my heart overflows with a goodly theme as I address my psalm to a King."

It would be a great time in our spiritual walk to begin the spring season meditating and praying this Psalm to Jesus. The choice words of the psalmist give us a prayer language of love to express back to our King. Let's expand our vocabulary in prayer with these love words. We can sing them, speak them, and declare them.

Lord, (verse 6-8)
Your throne is forever and ever; the scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom. Oh, Lord, You love righteousness. Your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness above Your fellows. Your garments are all fragrant with myrrh, aloes, and cassia; stringed instruments make You glad.
We can even go deeper here if we understand the meaning of the spices adorning His garment. Myrrh is the burial spice which speaks of what He did for us. Aloes are the healing spices. His very garments smell of the healing anointing He has poured out for us. Lastly, cassia means integrity, truth. Christ is the truth. He is revelation.

He reveals the mysteries and secrets as we search His Word. Jesus smells of all these beautiful aromas—it drips like oil from His very being.

Wow!I want these spices to drip all over me today. I want to drip with the oil and fragrance of His love as I pour my love upon Him.

Do you feel it? Love is in the air—Christ's love poured out for us. It makes Easter even more special and meaningful!
